Hiking at the Iao Valley

Iao Valley has a great historical spirit to the Hawaiian and this is one of the best places to admire in Maui Hawaii other than the beach. You will never want to ignore a tour to the Iao valley state park, a lush, beautiful valley covered with plenty of tropical plants and floral, rivers, and enjoying the sound of the nature on the way to the Iao Needle. The Iao Heritage gardens Kapaniwai is also a must visit park where we appreciate the cultures contributed to Maui from other countries.

Hiking at the Iao Valley

This valley is located above Wailuku and is a wonderful ½ day stroll on fully paved pathways and stairs.  The stream is warm and shallow and a favorite for locals to cool off in on hot days.  The stream may look inviting but be careful as every rock in the water is as slippery and unseen as black ice because of the mosses on the rocks that grow year around.

The Iao valley history

Iao valley is where king Kamehameha the Great defeated Kalanikupule and the Maui army in 1790, the Battle of Kepaniwai for the sake of the Hawaii islands unification. Iao valley state park is not just a beautiful stop in the middle of the West Maui Mountains but also a spiritual and sacred place that is rich in ancient Hawaii history.

Iao Valley State Park is located at the end of the Iao valley road, about 3 miles from Kahului airport, is regarded as one of Hawaii’s most visited places. It’s easy for tour bus and taxis to go there and along with it, multiple walkways, steps, and trails that have been riddled with historical footprints.

If you’re a photographer or someone who just likes to take photos then you can add this place to your travel for amazing landscape pictures.
